Chocolate Oreo Balls
Oreos and cream cheese combined and dipped in chocolate. These Chocolate Oreo Balls are one of my most indulgent recipes.
Oreo balls are chocolatey goodness. First, who doesn’t love Oreos? Cookies and Cream flavored anything is always tasty. Second, how do you make Oreos even better? By adding cream cheese and even more chocolate.
This recipe was given to me by a former coworker (Hi, Cammy!), but you can find versions of it all over the internet because it’s that popular. When Cammy explained how simple it was to make, I didn’t believe her based on how delicious it tasted. Sure enough, it really is that easy to make these.
A food processor takes nearly all the difficulty out of this recipe. Before I owned a food processor, I would place the Oreos in a plastic bag (I recommend using something marked for “freezer storage” since it will be thicker plastic and less likely to tear) and crush them using a sturdy bowl or rolling pin. It will lead to a chunkier paste, but that isn’t a bad thing depending on your preferences.
After crushing the cookies, use the food processor (or another mixing method) to evenly combine the cream cheese. Roll the paste into balls, then freeze for at least 30 minutes. Pop them out of the freezer, dip into chocolate, and you’ve got yourself a Chocolate Oreo Ball!
Dress them up!
You can dress up Oreos balls however you like: chocolate with white chocolate drizzle, white chocolate with chocolate drizzle, sprinkled with Oreo crumbs, sprinkled with crushed peppermint, sprinkled with nuts. Decorate them to your heart’s content.
To do the drizzle, I put the chocolate bark in a microwave safe plastic bag and heat until melted. Next, I snip a teeny amount of the corner off the bag. Last, I line up the Oreo balls in rows on wax paper and drizzle!
Show them off!
Oreo Balls are one of my Show Off desserts. If I have guests coming over and I want to impress them, I make these. I have yet to have a friend leave unimpressed or unsatisfied. Try them out for your next get-together! Just remember that these have cream cheese in them so they need to be refrigerated or left on a plate for a short period of time. (Be mindful of food safety guidance.) They’re that good that I typically put them out as an appetizer as well.
How to Freeze and Thaw
If there are any leftovers, Chocolate Oreo Balls freeze great. I cannot taste a difference between freshly chilled and previously frozen Oreo Balls. To freeze, place them into a freezer safe container and place the container in the freezer. To thaw, move the balls to the refrigerator overnight. You can eat them frozen, but I prefer the texture at refrigeration temperatures.
FAQs
Do I need a food processor?
Having a food processor helps, but it is not required. If you don’t have a food processor, instead use a heavy rolling pin or sturdy bowl to crush the Oreos.
Do I need to remove the cream from the cookies?
Nope! Leave the cream filling in the Oreo.
Regular or Double Stuf Oreos?
Regular Oreos. (And yes, Double Stuf Oreos actually only has one F!)
Any tips for easy clean up?
In order to avoid scraping melted chocolate off of baking sheets and out of bowls, I line the baking sheet with wax paper. I place the Oreo balls on this before they are coated and after they are dipped in chocolate. I use a disposable bowl for melting the chocolate in the microwave, and I use toothpicks in order to dip the balls into the chocolate.
